APSHRC seeks report on GAIL pipeline fire

The Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission (APSHRC) today sought a report from the collector and the superintendent of police of East Godavari district on the deadly fire at Nagaram village which claimed 15 lives.
Following a petition filed by Y Somaraju, a lawyer, the commission asked the collector and the SP to file a report by July 10.
The petitioner alleges that negligence of GAIL officials led to the gas leak from its pipeline which passes through the village.
"There were no ambulances to take the injured from Nagaram, nor was there any fire-fighting equipment," the complaint says.
