Army commander brief J-K Guv on security situation

A top Army commander today called on Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra here and briefed him about the security situation, particularly continuing infiltration bids across the International Border and Line of Control (LoC) in the state.

"General Officer Commanding in Chief of Northern Command Lieutenant General Sanjiv Chachra called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan and extensively briefed him about the obtaining and emerging security situation, particularly in the context of the continuing concerted attempts at infiltration across the IB and LoC," an official spokesman said.

He said the Governor discussed with Lt Gen Chachra issues relating to field firing ranges located in the state and the importance of amicable civil-police-military relations being maintained under all circumstances.
 

Soon after his arrival in the Valley yesterday, the Army commander called on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and discussed the prevailing security situation and the measures being taken by Army towards sustained peace in the Valley.

Lt Gen Chachra was received by Srinagar-based Chinar Corps Commander Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh and briefed on the current operational situation on LoC and internal security environment prevailing in the hinterland.
