Army destroys IED in Assam

A powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED), weighing about 15 kg, was recovered and destroyed by the Army in Assam's Chirang district while an activist of MULTA outfit was nabbed in Dhubri district.

Acting on specific information from the police about a suspicious object found on Patiladaha-Panbari Road in the district, troops under the Red Horns Division accompanied by Army Bomb Disposal personnel carried out thorough search, a defence spokesman said.

During the search, the IED was found under a culvert and was later defused, the spokesman said.

In another incident, a militant of the Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Assam (MULTA) was nabbed in a joint operation by the Army and police forces from Baijer Alga village in Dhubri district today, he said.
 

A 9 mm pistol along with four rounds of ammunition was recovered from his possession.
