Army man killed in anti-militancy operation cremated

The mortal remains of Arvinder Kumar, an Army gunner who was killed during an anti-militancy operation in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district, were today consigned to flames with full military honours at his native Sariana village, about 65 km from here.

His brother Prem Singh lit the pyre.

Kumar joined the Indian Army on June 26, 2012.

He, along with Sepoy Hetram and Gunner Nilesh Singh, suffered critical bullet injuries in a gun battle with terrorists in Kachedoora in Shopian district. He died later in a hospital.

MLA Rajnish Kumar Babbi, Deputy Commissioner Vipul Ujjwal, Senior Superintendent of Police J Elanchezhian paid floral tributes to Kumar.

 

Kumar is survived by his parents, four elder sisters and a brother.

His younger brother has been serving in the Indian Army.
