Army today came to the rescue of 35 people in the frontier Rajouri district who had lost their limbs in mine blasts and polio, by providing them with artificial limbs and callipers, a Defence spokesman said.
"A free artificial limb camp was organized for the locals of Rajouri district by the Rumlidhara Battalion under Naoshera Brigade, today" S N Acharya officiating Defence spokesman Jammu said.
He said the army carried out a close liaison with a Delhi based NGO to provide artificial limbs and callipers to mine and polio victims of the district.

"Registration of patients for the camp was carried out on June 6 and 7. All 35 registered patients were provided with fully functional and customised artificial Limbs," Acharya said.
He said that the patients with upper limb problems were being provided with special electronically controlled limbs and its accessories which will facilitate them in their daily chores.
"This is a first of its kind initiative by the Indian Army" he said.
