Army XI (Kolkata) lift Bihar Cup

Army XI (Kolkata) today won the 4th All India Football Tournament for 'Bihar Cup' defeating Mahilpur Football Club (Punjab) in a thrilling final at Moin-ul Haque stadium here.

After the two teams were locked at 1-1 after full time and extra time, the title was decided on tie-breaker in which Army XI (Kolkata) converted all five penalties against three by the runners-up.

Earlier, the Army boys started the match in an organised manner and let go scoring opportunities in the first 20 minutes, but striker Arjun Tuddu and Rakesh let the chances go a begging.

Mahilpur FC also missed as many chances.
 

The Army boys eventually took the lead in 84th minute when Jain struck after getting a pass from Arjun Tuddu.

Mahilpur FC equalised through Varinder Singh (Sr) in injury time.

Both teams failed to break the jinx during 15 minutes of extra-time to force the match into penalty shootout.

In the tie-breaker, Vibiw T.V, Jain, Arjun Tuddu, Rujen Meshi and Francis converted their penalties for the winners, while Virender Singh (Senior), Paramjit Singh and Kulwant Singh scored for the Mahilpur Football Club.

Former Air India team coach Vimal Ghosh gave away Rs. 1 lakh cash prize and a trophy to the champions, while the runners up received Rs. 50,000 and a trophy.
