The Congress in Arunachal Pradesh today demanded the state government to cancel the global tender being floated against execution of Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) for electrification works of several towns in the state.

The party, while alleging that the tender has deprived local contractors and departments of the state, asked the government to re-invite the tender township wise to encourage the local contractors.

The state government on December 5 had floated the tender against IPDS scheme for electrification works of Itanagar, Naharlagun, Seppa, Pasighat, Aalo, Ziro, Daporijo, Tezu and Namsai towns amounting to Rs 150.9 crore.

"After formation of the NEDA government in the state, the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre is taking undue advantage for the benefit of big corporate houses by sabotaging and depriving the state, departments and local entrepreneurs," Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Padi Richo said in a statement here.

Terming it as another "scam" in the power department, Richo alleged that without encouraging local contractors by inviting a tender township wise, the Modi government had influenced the state government to go for a single project and invited a global tender just to deprive the local contractors.

The party threatened of a democratic movement if the state government failed to cancel the tender, the statement added.
