Ashani rallies to down Saniya in a thriller

Nagpur's Ashani Joshi fought back after dropping the first game to oust Mumbai's Saniya Shivalkar 8-11 11-9 11-8 and move into the girls' under-15 singles fourth round in the PNB Metlife West Zone junior badminton championships here today.

Mumbai's Karishma Kharadikar too was given a fright by city rival Shravani Panchal before wining 11-8 5-11 11-8.

Nashik's Sachi Bhuse was wayward initially against Kolhapur's Aishwarya Chappale (Kol) before she tightened up her game to wrap up the tie 2-11 11-9 11-6.

In the boys' under-17 singles, Mumbai's Bhavik Beharni struggled before moving into the third round with a 11-8 6-11 11-10 win over Aditya Reddy, also from Mumbai, at the Goregaon Sports Club.
 

In another close encounter between two Mumbaikars, Tushar Shirose overpowered Pal Gaurav 11-6 8-11 11-5.
