An Assistant Sub-Inspector of Traffic Police has been arrested for accepting a bribe from a tempo driver to let him off after he was caught for drunken driving offence, police said today.
Yatender Kumar was caught red handed while accepting Rs 2000 out of Rs 3000 demanded by him from the tempo driver in Sadar Bazar area, by Delhi Police's Vigilance Branch team yesterday, said RK Jha, DCP(Vigilance Branch).
The tempo owner and the driver had lodged a complaint with Vigilance Branch on August 19. The driver had alleged that the traffic cop had asked him Rs 5,000 for not booking him under drunken driving offence.

The driver further alleged that he had bargained and paid Rs 1000 to the accused and had promised to pay the balance Rs 2000. A Vigilance Branch team accompanied the complainant and arrested Yatender while accepting money from him, said the officer.
An FIR was registered on the statement of the complainant under Prevention of Corruption Act provisions at Vigilance Branch police station. The accused has been arrested, he said.
