ASI arrested for taking Rs 5000 bribe

An Assistant Sub-Inspector was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 from a person in Ganderbal district of central Kashmir today, a spokesman of State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) said.
The accused, Abdul Kabir was caught red-handed by a special surveillance squad headed by Senior Superintendent of Police, SVO, M S Punoo at Khirbawani, the spokesman said.
He said the officer was posted in police station Khirbawani and had negotiated a deal with a person against whom a case was registered in the police station under Kabir's jurisdiction.

"The ASI was arrested while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5000, in presence of independent witnesses and Magistrate, from the complainant in connection with the negotiation of case registered against him," the spokesman said.
He said a case was registered against the officer who was arrested and lodged in police station Vigilance Organisation Kashmir.
"Further investigation of the case is in progress," he said.
