ASI arrested on graft charge

Vigilance sleuths today arrested an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) while he was accepting Rs 2,500 from a person at Rajkanika in Kendrapara district.

As Batakrushna Bal sought the Case Diary (CD) of a criminal case pending against him, ASI Bijoy Kumar Parida of Rajkanika police station demanded bribe for it.

Harassed over extortion tactics, the complainant informed the vigilance sleuths. Accordingly a trap was laid. The police officer was caught red-handed while receiving the demanded amount, a vigilance official said.
