Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar today said that the mastermind behind the recent attack on NGO members opposing illegal transportation of beef in the state is likely to be from Karnataka.

"It seems that the mastermind behind the attack on NGO members are from Belgaum (Karnataka). The beef suppliers seem to be behind it," Parsekar told the Legislative Assembly.

Two NGO members Amrut Singh and one of his supporters were attacked a month back on Goa border when they stopped trucks illegally carrying beef into the state.

Police had investigated several beef suppliers in the state but had not got any leads in the case.

Parsekar said the police investigations into the incident have hit a dead-end.

However, on the other hand, he appealed the NGOs not to stop the beef-carrying trucks on the border.

"Beef is eaten by sizable population in the state. It is a part of meal for several Goans," he said.

He said that NGOs can take police protection to prevent atrocities against animals but they should not stop beef supply.
