Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit today congratulated the members of the state assembly for passing the Goods and Services Tax (GSt) Bill, thus paving the way for operationalizing of the GST Act and rolling out a uniform tax regime.
"The GST Bill will benefit consumer states like Assam to reap dividends as the burden of taxation at various stages would no longer be operational", the Governor said in a statement here.
It would also lend transparency in taxation system as the consumers would not have to bear the brunt of multiple taxation, he added.
The state assembly had passed the GST Bill yesterday to put in place a uniform taxation system for goods and services.
