Assam Rifles jawan assaults policemen, arrested

An Assam Rifles jawan was arrested after he beat up two Assam police constables and a few Village Defence Party (VDP) members in the wee hours today.

Jorhat SP Amanjeet Kaur said Assam Rifles Naik Govinda Raju, accompanied by a woman, was loitering near Jorhat Law College at around 1:30 AM when he was challenged by the VDP members present there.

Raju then assaulted the VDP members who informed the police, she said, adding, as soon as the police arrived, Raju attacked Constable Partho Borbora and Head Constable Ranjan Das.

The two constables and VDP members Apurba Baruah and Digit Baruah were admitted at the Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH), Kaur said.
 

Raju was arrested and sent to jail.
