Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today announced that the state government would launch a Rs 100-crore special scheme for development of backward areas in Lakhimpur district.
Addressing a function in the district, Gogoi said the amount would be spent for rapid development of the areas such as Ghilamara and Dhakuakhana.
He admitted that there were scope of further improvement in these places even though the government had worked for developing the backward areas.

Gogoi was in the district to lay the foundation of upgradation of state highways in the district.
The road projects were being implemented with the help of World Bank grants to the tune of Rs 161 crore.
