At least 50 hurt as makeshift gallery collapses

At least 50 people were injured when a makeshift audience gallery crashed in during staging of a play at Vasai fort in the district today, police said.

"The mishap occurred around 6:45 PM when the drama 'Janata Raja' was in progress at the fort when the makeshift gallery collapsed suddenly," a station house officer (SHO) at Vasai police station said.

Personnel of departments of police, fire and medical staff rushed to the spot, he said, adding that details regarding exact number of the injured were awaited.

'Janata Raja' is a mega-play based on the life of Maratha king Shivaji. The play recreates 17th century scenes, including Shivaji's coronation.
