A security guard of an ATM was today killed after being hit on the head by some unknown assailants who made an abortive attempt to rob cash on Sirhind road here in the wee hours.
SSP Patiala Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said the guard was killed as the assailants struck him with a rod.
The ATM machine was safe and no money was looted by the miscreants, who escaped after the incident, the SSP said.
A case has been registered and the matter is being investigated, he said.
