Autonomy status likely for 13 colleges

Kerala government has decided to to grant autonomy to about 11 government-run secondary school institutions and two aided colleges.

The selection of colleges was made by a panel headed by Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb, an official release here said..

The state government would recommend the first list to the University Grants Commission which would take a final call on the recommendations.

A total of 28 colleges had submitted application seeking autonomy including the reputed Mar Ivanios college at Thiruvananthapuram. The state government had fixed a scale of 10-point norms for granting the autonomy status.

Student organisations, owing allegiance to the Left, had come out in protest against the government's recommendation to the UGC to grant autonomy to a few selected colleges.
