A special CBI court today rejected bail plea of former Rajasthan minister Babulal Nagar, who is in jail for allegedly raping and assaulting a 35-year-old woman.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (CBI) Mahendra Kumar Mehta rejected the plea saying the case was of "serious crime nature that amounts to life imprisonment" hence bail was not granted, defence lawyer A K Jain said.

In the order, the Magistrate also said his court could not grant bail in such cases, Jain told PTI.

53-year-old Nagar, who was arrested by CBI on October 25, was sent to 14-day judicial custody till November 12. Later his judicial custody was extended upto December 9.

The 35-year-old woman has alleged that Nagar had called her to his official residence in Civil Lines here on September 11 on the pretext of giving her a job, and thrashed and raped her in a room.

The Rajasthan minister of state for dairy and rural industries resigned from the state Cabinet two days after the FIR was registered.
