There is an increase in theft cases of passengers' baggages in trains, Lok Sabha was told today.
The number of theft cases of passengers' belongings in trains has increased in 2013 as against 2012, Minister of State for Railway Manoj Sinha said in a written reply.
While 1088 theft cases in trains were reported in 2012, it rose to 1587 in 2013.

He said there were 827 theft cases reported upto June 2014.
Currently an average 1275 trains are being escorted by Railway Protection Force in addition to 2200 trains escorted by Government Railway Police.
Minister said security helpline numbers have been set up in zonal railway control rooms to enable passengers to seek security related assistance on real time basis.
