Banerjee sets up committee to look into coop banks' problems

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today constituted a committee to look into problems of cooperative banks in the state and suggest ways to improve their operations.

Banerjee insisted that cooperative banks in the state should improve themselves by being transparent and accountable.

"Today I announce that a committee under the chief secretary will be constituted which will look into the problems of the cooperative banks in the state. It will submit its findings in another six months' time to me," Banerjee said.

The Chief Minister was speaking at a state government organised discussion on the role of cooperative banks in socio-economic development.
 

Banerjee said the committee would suggest ways on how to improve business of the cooperative banks, set up new branches at places where there are no banks and how to meet the workers' demands.
