Bank locker found at Kedarnath, Rs 1.90 cr recovered

Rs 1.90 crore in cash were recovered from a bank locker pulled out of the debris at Kedarnath during cleaning operations prior to resumption of prayers at the Himalayan shrine on September 11, a senior police official said today.

The locker of State Bank of India was pulled out of the debris during cleaning operations on September 8, prior to resumption of prayer at the famous shrine, Rudraprayag SP Varinder Jeet Singh said.

SBI officials in Dehradun were immediately informed about the recovery of the locker.

The bank locker was opened in the presence of police and SBI officials yesterday at Kedarnath and the amount of Rs 1.90 crore recovered from it was handed over to SBI Chief Manager Anoop Lamba, he said.
 

In Chamoli district, Rs 33 lakh cash was recovered from a SBI locker pulled out of the rubble of a building housing a branch recently.
