The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) said today's one-day bank strike was totally successful.

Convenor of the West Bengal chapter of UFBU, the umbrella organisation of nine bank unions, Nagendranath Bhattacharya said all branches of PSU, private and foreign banks downed their shutters responding to the strike call.

Most of the ATMs across the state also remained inoperative, he told reporters here.

He said the strike had been called to protest against non-revision of wages as per the tenth bipartite agreement with the Indian Banks Association (IBA).

The United Forum of Reserve Bank Officers and Employees also expressed solidarity with the striking bankers.

No clearing operations could be done at the RBI today as no cheques were sent by the banks to the central bank.
