Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today launched a drive against unauthorised hoardings and advertisement material put up at various junctions here.

Accompanied by officials and workers of the municipalities, Bedi inspected the removal of illegal hoardings, as part of 'operation unauthorised hoarding.'

The officials had identified the places, where the hoardings had been erected without permission from the municipalities.

A press release from Raj Nivas said illegal hoardings dotting the main thoroughfare and trafficjunctions marred the beauty of the roads and buildings.

A team comprising officials from the police, public works departments and municipalities was constituted to regularly inspect the spots and prevent mushrooming of such hoardings.

The release said Bedi had directed the officials to communicate the information about the action taken every day through whatsapp.

Earlier, she inaugurated a police kiosk centre called 'Robot Cop' to furnish information to tourists on places of importance, on police stations to contact in case of emergency and other information.

The kiosk was set up under the banner 'Police Singam' (lion) with a statue of a police constable holding a computer that can be operated by tourists to get details of tourist sites and others.

Chief minister V Narayanasamy and Director general of police S K Gautam were also present.
