Former Union minister for Tribal Affairs Kantilal Bhuria today condemned the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for celebrating the Good Governance Day despite massacre of tribals in Assam by Bodo extremists.

He also alleged that the Bodo groups had supported BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.

"Despite the massacre of tribals at the hands of Bodo organisations, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government celebrated good governance day across the nation and has not shown any remorse for the poor tribals," he said.

Good Governance Day was celebrated on the 90th birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on December 25.

On December 23, suspected NDFB (Songbijit) militants launched a series of attacks at four places in Sonitpur and Kokrajhar districts of Assam killing many people.

81 people were killed in the violence in the wake of NDFB(S) attack, retaliatory violence by adivasis and police firing.

Bhuria, who is also the chairman of Madhya Pradesh Adivasi Vikas Parishad, said he had spoken to former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi and soon they would meet President Pranab Mukherjee on the issue.

He also criticised the NDA government for not being able to give land rights to more than 30 per cent of landless tribals despite the UPA government framing a law on the issue.
