The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has embarked on a new plan through sanction from the JNNURM scheme to make the city garbage free.
The JNNURM has sanctioned Rs 110 this year for the project through which compactors will be purchased to make the city totally garbage free, KMC's mayor-in-council Debabrata Mazumdar said.
Ad additional Rs 44 crore has been sanctioned for building a garbage cumping ground in the city, he said.

KMC mayor in the meanwhile has announced that Rs 67.81 crore will be spent to renovate the 100 year-old water reservoir in the city.
The work is targetted to be completed this year, he said.
