The Bihar cabinet today approved a proposal to rechristen "Bihar Excise Service" as Bihar Prohibition Service" in view of the New Excise Policy, 2015 that enforced complete ban on sale and consumption of liquor in the state.
The prohibition law is enforced in the state for past over two years by this department.
The cabinet also gave green signal to Home department's proposal to upgrade and establish a full fledged rail police stations at Hajipur and Sitamarhi under Muzaffarpur rail district, Singh said adding the two places at present have rail police posts.
It approved creation of 43 and 38 different posts for the newly upgraded rail police stations at Hajipur and Sitamarhi respectively, he added.
The meeting also okayed setting up a private university- AI Karim University- in Katihar district of the state.
"Under the provisions of Private University Act, Al Karim University had made an application to the education department for approval to set up and run a private university at Katihar. The department, which found the application as per norms, granted recognition to Al Karim University to run it as private university," Singh said.
The state cabinet also provided go ahead for construction of multi-purpose Muhane river medium irrigation scheme at an estimated cost of Rs 143.80 crore, he said.
The scheme would not only provide irrigation facility but would also help in water conservation, flood control besides providing transportation facility, Singh said adding that four dams, 20 inlet and 22 outlet would be constructed under the scheme which will be ready by December 2020.
A total of 20 agendas of various departments were taken up at the cabinet meeting.
