To enhance availability of drinking water in Bihar, the state government is planning to provide one hand pump to every 100 people instead of 250 as per its present scheme.
Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi today directed Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) officials to work out a plan to provide 100 hand pumps to every 100 people instead of the the ongoing scheme of one hand pump for 250, an official statement said.
The direction was given during a review meeting of the department here attended by PHED minister Mahachander Prasad Singh, Chief Secretary Ashok Kumar Sinha and Development Commissioner Alok Kumar Sinha, it said.

The Chief Minister also emphasised on the construction of toilets particularly in the rural areas.
In fact Manjhi directed filling up of vacancies in the PHED in this connection, it said.
