Earlier as section 9 of the West Bengal School Service Commission Act, 1997 was operative to these schools and similar charitable organisations rendering humanitarian services to the society donation, employees of those schools were appointed by the school authorities on recommendation of the WBSSC, state's Education Minister Bratya Basu said.
Authorities of such schools repeatedly represented before the state government for exemption of section 9 of the Act from them so that the teaching and non-teaching employees could be appointed by themselves for maintaining their age-old benevolent and philanthropic traditions, he said.
As the state assembly was not in session and it was necessary to take immediate action in the matter, an Ordinance namely the West Bengal School Service Commission (Amendment) Ordinance, 2012 was promulgated earlier, the minister said.
