Bird on runway delays flight landing at Kolkata airport

A domestic flight of a private airlines had to hover in the air for about 10 minutes as an airport worker tried to chase away a bird from the runway at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport here, airport sources said today.

The pilot of the Spice Jet flight from Bengaluru spotted the birdchaser on runway number two yesterday afternoon and contacted the ATC.

The flight had to hover in the sky before the runway was cleared, the sources said.

The presence of birds in the runway in common at the airport and birdchasers are employed to ensure that there are no mishaps, the sources added.
