SAD leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal today drew flak from its ally BJP for her statement against Rahul Gandhi on anti-Sikh riots of 1984 and subsequent assassination of his grandmother Indira Gandhi, saying such statements demoralise security forces.

Reacting to the Bhatinda MP's remarks, BJP vice-president Laxmi Kanta Chawla, said, "People from all communities were killed during militancy in Punjab. Harsimrat Kaur should explain why this happened."

The SAD leader had hit out against Rahul after he shared an emotional account of his grandmother Indira Gandhi's assassination in 1984 by her Sikh bodyguards.

"What was Indira Gandhi doing at that time when Skihs were being killed? Her government also ordered security forces operation in the Golden Temple," Kaur had said yesterday.

"Gandhi family members met with the fate that they did," she was quoted as saying.

On Wednesday, at a rally in Rajasthan, Rahul had said that communalism and the politics of hatred had cost his family heavily.

Chawla said terrorists in Punjab are being called martyrs and their relatives are being honoured. "Will Harsimrat Kaur will describe it as correct?" she said.
