Opposition BJP today pilloried Nitish Kumar government for giving go-by to a past decision to change bedsheet in hospital beds everyday to maintain hygiene.

The matter came by way of short notice question of BJP member Sanjay Singh Tiger in the Legislative Assembly.

Health Minister Ramdhani Singh refuted the questioner that a sum of Rs 4 lakh is spent every month in the name of washing it and said its around Rs 75,000.

On this leader of Opposition Nand Kishore Yadav intervened and said that means bedsheets are not changed daily in PMCH as decided by the NDA Cabinet in 2009.

Yadav, who was Health minister during 2009, said the then Nitish Kumar ministry had decided to place a bedsheet of different colour all seven days of the week.

There are 1675 beds in Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), the premier health institution of the state.

"The decision has been given a go-by by the department after BJP left despite the fact that Health was with the CM for a good over a year then," he said.

Yadav also referred to the discrepancy in rate of washing which is Rs 11.55 per bedsheet in PMCH but only Rs 5.80 a bedsheet in NMCH (Nalanda Medical College and Hospital), another premier institution in the state capital itself.

He alleged that patients are being put on uncleaned bedsheet which leave them susceptible to diseases.
