Demanding extension of the monsoon session of Uttar Pradesh legislature, BJP members today staged dharna inside both the Assembly and the Council to discuss issues concerning the state and continued with their protest inside the Well even after both the Houses were adjourned for the day.

BJP Legislature Party in a statement said that there was a provision to convene a 10-day session after every two months.

The current session, which began on August 14, is likely to be a brief one with just six sittings.

The BJPLP said while first day was adjourned after obituary reference, it was not possible to have a meaningful debate on problems related to the state in the remaining four days.

It claimed that around 3 pm, Assembly Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey and Council Chairman Ganesh Shanker Pandey separately requested BJP legislators to end the dharna, but the party was adamant on having a detailed debate on law and order, power, farmers and corruption including suspended Noida chief engineer Yadav Singh.

Leader of BJPLP in the Assembly Suresh Kumar Khanna and party leader in the Council Hriday Narain Dixit alleged that the government was running away from a debate on basic issues and dubbed it as anti-people.

The dharna inside the Well in both Houses continued till late in the evening.
