Congress today accused the BJP-PDP coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir of indulging in political gimmicks rather than focusing on problems being faced by the people.

"The government is in deep slumber and instead of addressing to the problems of the people of the state, the BJP-PDP coalition government is busy indulging in political gimmicks with the people", JKPCC vice president Sham Lal Sharma said while addressing a meeting of party workers in Akhnoor today.

Sharma said that the people of Jammu region who had put in hopes on the BJP before the elections were feeling disappointed over the "highly timid and nonchalant approach of the saffron party towards the issues of Jammu region as well as the concerns of unemployed youth".

Sharma accused the BJP of backstabbing the people of Jammu who had placed high hopes on the "saffron party".

"BJP that called itself to be the caretakers of Jammu and Hindus have stabbed the people in their back", he said.

Sharma also accused the BJP of destabilising the democratic foundations of the country.

"Attempts are being made by BJP to destabilise democratic foundations and the secular fabric, to divert people's attention from the total failure of governance", he said.

He asked the people of the Jammu region to unite and wage a battle against the forces that were hell bent to create division amongst the communities.

Sharma alleged that the BJP-PDP coalition was harassing the government employees based on their political affiliation.

He said that the relief package announced by the Prime Minister had nothing much for the victims of last year's devastating floods.

"The package also does not have much for the internally displaced people including the Kashmiri Pandit migrants," he said.

He rued that the prime minister did not announce AIIMS for Jammu and also said nothing about sanctioning of smart city for Jammu.
