The BJP today lodged a strong protest with the Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary for rejecting an adjournment motion moved by its MLA Vinodanand Jha for debate on the midday meal tragedy in which 23 children died in Dharmasti Gandaman village under Mashrakh block in Bihar's Saran district on July 16 last.
A group of MLAs led by the Leader of Opposition Nandkishore Yadav met the Speaker in the latter's chamber during lunch recess and drew his attention to the rules regarding submission of adjournment motions from a book written by a constitutional expert Subhash Kashyap.
".....Discussion on an adjournment motion can be initiated on the same day on which a notice for it is given by a member to the Secretary General. The house treats an adjournment motion with a sense of utmost urgency. As provided in the rules, notice is required to be given by a member by '10.00 hours on the day on which the motion is proposed to be made," the BJP MLAs quoted from Kashyap's book and submitted the paper to Chaudhary for record.
