Ahead of party president Amit Shah's visit here tomorrow, BJP workers today staged a protest after their posters and banners were removed allegedly by ruling BJD and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Vehicles of BMC were damaged by the protesters who blocked the main road at Power House Square causing traffic chaos in the area.

Two BJP activists were detained for their alleged involvement in vandalism, police said.

BJP state president Basant Panda, who went to the agitation site, alleged that BJP posters and hoardings were torn by BMC workers at the instructions of BJD leaders.

BMC Commissioner Krishna Kumar, however, said "The city has been declared as 'no hoarding zone' since November 1. Therefore, BMC officials removed some of the hoardings. Apart from this, the BJP leaders had not sought permission from the BMC to put hoardings on the road side."

Meanwhile, the public were inconvenienced as the Power House area was the main junction connecting major government offices like the state secretariat, Khurda DC's camp office and Additional district magistrate office.
