After the Congress accused vigilance sleuths of shielding the ruling BJD MLAs in Odisha and Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) corporators in alleged relief loot, the BJP today upped its ante by staging a dharna in front of the office of the vigilance director here.
Led by former minister and senior party leader Samir Dey, the BJP workers submitted a memorandum to the state vigilance director demanding immediate arrest of the tainted corporators involved in the incident and bring the local mayor and MLAs into the purview of the investigation.
The vigilance sleuths have booked many BJD corporators and four CMC officials after registering cases against them under several sections of the IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act for their alleged involvement in looting relief materials from the office of the civic body in October last year when the state was hit by a severe cyclone.
"We are here to serve an ultimatum to the Vigilance director seeking his indulgence in prosecuting the tainted BJD leaders," Dey said threatening that the BJP would now go to the people's court seeking justice.
