Black pepper firm-up on rising demand

Black pepper prices firmed up in an otherwise lacklustre spices market here today on rising demand from stockists and exporters.

Other spices ruled stable in the absence of any worthwhile buying activity.

Black pepper rose by Rs 5 per kg to Rs 750/820 from Wednesday's closing level of Rs 745/815.

Following are today's closing rates (in Rs with previous rates in brackets):

Black pepper (per kg) 750/820 (745/815), ginger bleached (per kg) 215 (215), ginger unbleached (per kg) 235 (235), copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 7,400 (7,400), copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 7,300 (7,300), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 16,500 (16,500), copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 9,100 (9,100).
