The book-keeper of a brick kiln was shot at by some unidentified persons who demanded Rs 20 lakh as 'rangdaari' (extortion money), police said today.
The miscreants arrived at the Mahalaxmi brick field yesterday and opened fire at Veerpal injuring him on the leg, Superintendent of Police Jitendra Shahi said.
Eye witnesses and workers at the kiln said before opening fire the miscreants made a demand of Rs 20 lakh. They also threatened that the kiln owner will meet the same fate if the money was not paid to them, he added.
Veerpal was admitted to a hospital from where he was discharged today, the SP said, adding, a case against unidentified persons has been lodged.
