A Mayurbhanj district court today sentenced a man to eight years' rigorous imprisonment for selling brown sugar in this district headquarter town.
After convicting Harendra Mohanty (38), Mayurbhanj Additional District Judge Sudipta Acharya also slapped Rs 50,000 fine.
In case of default in payment, the convict will undergo RI for another six months.
Mohanty was arrested by excise officials while he was selling brown sugar in small packets in the town on December 21, 2013. They recovered 32 packets of the drug weighing 21 gm and 300 mg.
