Power discom BSES has brought over 1,000 consumers including the Lotus Temple and Maulana Azad Medical college in the list of rooftop solar connections in the city, a company spokesperson said here.

The total load of over 40 MW has been energised so far with 1,000 rooftop connections, he said.

The number of rooftop solar connections by the end of the year is likely to cross the 2,000 mark, the spokesperson said.

Most of the 1,077 rooftop solar connections energised by BSES fall under domestic category followed by commercial and educational connections.

Vasant Valley school, DPS(east of Kailash), Bal Bharti, Aurobindo Ashram and organisations like TERI and have adopted rooftop solar connections of BSES.

"BSES is amongst very few utilities in India, which are engaged in actively propagating the roof top solar installations through direct marketing efforts," the spokesperson said

Rooftop solar connections allow consumers to generate electricity for self consumption and sell surplus, if any, to the discom.

They are paid by the discom for the surplus power sold by them, as per the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC).

Domestic consumers also enjoy the benefit of Generation Based Incentive (GBI), which at present is Rs 2 per unit.

Moreover, consumers opting for the RESCO model do not have to incur any upfront capital expenditure. It is borne by the vendor, said the spokesperson.
