BSF nabs one for smuggling gold biscuits across Bangla border

A clearing agent was today held at the India-Bangladesh border for allegedly smuggling gold biscuits worth Rs 45 lakh in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.

The incident happened early today when a Border Security Force (BSF) patrol intercepted one Gopal Halder (50), working as a carry and forward agent at Petrapole along Bangaldesh border.

On frisking, officials said here, BSF troops recovered 13 gold biscuits weighing about 1.5-kg from the person who was handed over to customs authorities on the charge of smuggling the yellow metal.

The customs department is investigating the case. The estimated value of the biscuits is about Rs 45 lakh, a senior BSF officer said.
 

In the first two months of this year, the force has seized gold worth Rs 2.8 crore from this border which it guards.
