A BSP leader was today shot dead by some unidentified gunmen at his residence in Srikanthpur village here, police said.

The attakers first touched the feet of the BSP leader, Ram Bihari Chaubey, and then shot him in the head, police said.

The attackers escaped on a motorcycle. Chaubey was rushed to a government hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, they said.

Chaubey had lost the 2012 assembly elections from Sakaldeeh (Chandauli) constituency to BJP's Sushil Singh. He was a railway contractor and had various other business interests.

The body has been sent for post-mortem and an FIR registered. A probe is underway, police said.
