Bus driver arrested with gold, foreign currencies

A bus driver has been arrested here by Sashstra Seema Bal for allegedly smuggling 504 gram of gold and foreign currencies in Sonauli area on Indo-Nepal border here, a senior officer said.
Thele Tamang, a native of Kathmandu in Nepal, was arrested with gold and currencies of different countries including Malaysia, UAE and Singapore, SSB commandant K S Bankhothi said, adding that Tamang has been handed over to customs authorities.
"The value of gold and foreign currencies is estimated at Rs 31 lakhs. Of late, due to domestic demand in India, Nepal has emerged as a preferred smuggling route for the precious metal," he added.
