The carcass of a month-old elephant calf was discovered by Forest Department officials near a farm on the banks of Bhavani river in the district.

Forest Department officials said their personnel during early morning rounds noticed the carcass near a farm in Ooliyur.

They said only a postmortem would reveal whether the calf was poisoned or it died following an attack by wild animals.
