The Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) here organised a career fest where it announced a special two-year diploma course.

More than 500 students participated in 'Career-Fest 2107' held at IIP's campus yesterday to explore the opportunities in the field of packaging as a career option.

The two-year Post Graduate Diploma in Packaging, slated to begin in August, is open to science graduates, said N C Saha, Director of IIP, while addressing students from various colleges who attended the event.

IIP is an autonomous body under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The packaging industry in India is expected to touch USD 73 billion in size in 2020 from USD 32 billion in FY15, Saha said, quoting a joint report of FICCI and Tata Strategic Management Group (TSMG).

The packaging industry is growing at an annual rate of 20 per cent and this would generate more jobs in the sector, he said.

"Packaging is a great career option in India where it is growing exponentially. With increase in consumerism there is a need of specialists and experts in various fields of packaging," said Shah.
