A former regional officer of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) has been booked for alleged embezzlement of funds from the official account of the body.
A Regional Officer, Rajkumar Arora, in his complaint filed at Bajaj Nagar police station yesterday alleged that the former Regional Officer Anil Panwar transferred Rs 28.40 lakh from the official account with State Bank of India to his personal account earlier this month.
A case has been lodged under Section 409 of IPC (criminal breach of trust by public servant) against Panwar and the matter is under investigation, Investigating Officer Saifali Sankhla said.
The ICCR, under Ministry of External Affairs, coordinates the Council's activities in its area with regard to international students and their welfare, culture, performances by visiting foreign delegations, outing cultural delegations from the region, distinguished visitors, exhibitions and seminars.
