Case registered against Dwaraka Peeth Shankaracharya

A case of hurting religious sentiments was today registered against the Shankaracharya of Dwaraka Peeth Swaroopananda Saraswati for his alleged remarks against Saibaba, a 20th century saint whose shrine here attracts lakhs of devotees every year.

Police inspector Ram Suryavanshi said here that offence was registered under section 295 (a) (malicious act intended to outrage religious feelings) and 298 (hurting religious sentiments) of the Indian Penal Code.

The complaint was filed by a local, Nitin Kote, he added.

Meanwhile, a protest march against Shankaracharya's statement was also taken out in the town today.
