Police have registered a case under the Information Technology Act against an unknown person in Kashmir for spreading false information about a police strike on social networking site.
"Some anti-social and mischievous elements have uploaded a frivolous message on Whatsapp messenger and Facebook regarding police strike being observed on March 15. Police have taken cognizance of the mischief," a police spokesman said today.
He said a case under Section 505 of RPC and Section 66-A of IT act has been registered in Shergari police station and probe is on.
"A team has been constituted to crack the case and arrest the culprit after tracking them," he added.
