CBI arrests executive engineer of CPWD

An Executive Engineer of Central Public Works Department at Raipur has been arrested by CBI on charges of demanding bribes to clear pending bills.

Vijay Kumar Sharma, Executive Engineer (Electrical), Regional Central Electrical Division, was arrested for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 26,000 from the complainant.

"A case was registered under section seven of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 on the complaint of a private person alleging that the Executive Engineer (Electrical), Regional Central Electrical Division, CPWD, Raipur(Chhattisgarh) had demanded an illegal gratification of Rs. 26,000 from the complainant for clearance of his pending bill amounting to Rs 13 lakh(approx)," CBI spokesperson said here today.
 

She said CBI laid a trap and the accused was caught while accepting the bribe.

"Searches were conducted at the residence and office of the Executive Engineer (Electrical) and incriminating documents have been recovered. The accused was produced in the Designated Court at Raipur and was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days," she said.
